Opening Day...Let the games begin!

Today was opening day at Zia Little League. They had a nice little ceremony this morning where they march out about 45 little league teams from t-ball to juniors on a field. They bring in the Honor Guard, mounted police, police cars, college ball players and the Albuquerque Isotopes mascot, Orbit, to keep all the kids laughing. It was fun but cold! We were remembering that last year Bob wasn't home for this event, that made it feel a little more special. :)
Chloe was the only one with a game today. She is on the t-ball Diamonds team. It's all girls and they were pink shirts and have pink batting helmets...it's so FABULOUS for Chloe! This year at her first at bat she ran to first instead of third base. It's good to know that she has progressed in her knowledge of the game but not quite as cute...well, she's always cute, but you know what I mean.
So with the official kickoff of little league games the Beeks are in serious game mode. We'll be at games and practices most days of the week. It'll be nutty for the next few months. Actually now that I think about it, I don't think the nutty-ness will have an end. Little league goes until June 20 and we are planning on leaving here about June 26. YIKERS. It's all creeping up on me too quickly!!! I digress, anyway, if any Albuquerque folks ever need something to do with an evening there's a good chance one of the little Beeks will be on the field and we'd love to have company in the bleachers! :)

The quest

Last night was date night and as usual we wanted to end the night with a little treat. I had my heart set on a Sonic Blast with peanut butter cups and whip cream. Bob was going to get a Blast for himself and then saw the McDonald's sign and thought he'd rather go for a Shamrock Shake, it is only a few days before St. Patty's Day after all. So we pulled up to the drive through and Bob asked if they had Shamrock Shakes. The young man on the other end of the speaker said, "Shamrock, what? What's that? Never heard of it." Bob started explaining that it was a green, minty shake that McDonald's sold in the month of March. The young man then asked, "Are you from America?" This really got us laughing. Are we really so out of the loop that we didn't know that Shamrock Shakes are extinct and the next generation knows nothing about them? How can this be? The young man ended the conversation with a polite, "Sorry, Dog." and we left feeling terribly disappointed, although somewhat amused.
Upon our arrival home, we shared the story with our friend Tim, who was reading in our house while our children slept. He had also never heard of the infamous Shamrock Shake, although he admitted that he never eats at McDonalds. This is just wacky!
So what I want to know is...have you ever heard of the Shamrock Shake? And if you live in Albuquerque, do you know of a McDonalds that is selling them?

The AMAZING Josiah

(YEP, he's just like his brother, notice the tongue)

So it all happens when Bob decides that today is the day we'll get rid of training wheels. Yesterday was that day for Josiah and why should I be shocked that he immediately began riding with no trainers and within minutes was going around the cul-de-sac. He's following in his big brother's footsteps riding a bike with no training wheels at the tender age of 3! We've known for a long time that our boys are athletic but sometimes I'm caught off guard. I had it in my mind that by the end of the summer he'd be riding with no training wheels...I should have known better. One session with daddy and he's a pro! We're very proud of our little two wheeling man and of course we're reminded that he'll probably be able to do lots of athletic things in the near future....like climbing light posts and playing on baseball teams with kids several years older. There's no holding these boys back!
